Exmouth Shanty Men
7:30pm Sat 10 June at The Allendale Centre Quarterjack | £25.00
Devon's original buoy band burst onto the folk scene in 2007, their reputation has been founded on the authenticity & integrity of their performance.
Committed to keeping alive their home town and their nation's rich maritime heritage, they dress in period costume and put their songs back on to the decks of the tall ships or into the dockside taverns where they rightfully belong; splicing together hard-bitten, hard-sung work shanties with gentle forebitters & heartbreaking laments delivered with pathos.
Their interaction with their audience makes every performance unique and when not playing high profile events or corporate functions, they regularly enthral audiences in folk clubs & theatres, on harboursides and in pubs.
Featured regularly in print media as well as radio and TV at home & abroad, in 2014 they gained international recognition when they were presented with the "Stan Hugil Award" for the 'most authentic shanties' at the highly respected Krakow International Shanty Festival.
