Sheepstealers play (mostly) traditional, (mostly) English, (mostly) folksong and dance tunes accompanied on the somewhat unlikely line-up of four saxophones (baritone, tenor, alto and soprano) plus double bass.

Sheepstealers started off as a project to see if a set of traditional folksongs and tunes could be arranged for a saxophone quartet to record. Subsequently, Sheepstealers were invited to perform a selection of these arrangements at a concert by Paul Sartin’s Andover Museum Loft Singers & Belshazzar’s Feast and thus did Sheepstealers take to the stage.

Sheepstealers take their name from a song “The Sheep Stealer”, collected by the Hammonds from Mrs Edith Sartin of Corscombe, Dorset around 1906.
